Welcome & Thrive
Welcome & Thrive – Supporting New Neighbours in Camden
Launching in early 2026, Welcome & Thrive is Abbey Community Centre’s new Borough of Sanctuary programme, created to welcome refugees, asylum seekers and migrants who are making their new home in our community.
Funded as a pilot and now in development, the project will offer a safe, friendly space where newly arrived residents can meet others, build confidence, and access practical support. Designed with input from people who have lived experience of seeking sanctuary, Welcome & Thrive will celebrate cultural diversity, reduce isolation, and strengthen understanding between long-time residents and new arrivals.
The programme will include weekly social drop-ins, English conversation clubs, digital skills support, cultural events, a women’s peer group, and opportunities for participants to get involved as volunteers and community leaders.
We’re proud to be working with Camden’s Borough of Sanctuary network to help make our borough a truly welcoming place for all. If you're interested in working in partnership with us on this project, please contact Jordan on jordan@abbeycc-kilburn.org.uk.
"Volunteering at Abbey Community Centre is a very valuable and inspiring experience for me. Even in a short time, I have felt like a part of this environment, and I am deeply grateful for the trust, support, and sincerity shown to me. As part of my volunteering, working with Coach Daniel has been a very pleasant experience. It is also very nice to interact with the fitness club members; they are kind, respectful, and positive people. Being in such a healthy and supportive environment has had a very positive impact on my personal development, and I am happy to continue this volunteering activity with great satisfaction. Thank you for believing in me and for supporting my future here. " - Ali
