Kilburn Good Neighbours is our award-winning home befriending scheme based here at Abbey, established for over 20 years.
Our lovely group of volunteer ‘Good Neighbours’ provide befriending visits to the homes of over 65s in the areas of Kilburn and South Hampstead, as well as chats over the telephone. Volunteers might join you in a game of scrabble or have a chat over a cup of tea as well as providing ad hoc help such as light shopping if getting out and about is difficult, deliveries, picking up prescription or light DIY. We also organise regular events, trips and parties for our Kilburn Good Neighbours members and volunteers and involve them in other projects at the centre where possible. For the latest news from our scheme, click here.
If you know somebody who may benefit from having a volunteer befriender, or fancy having one yourself, please contact us on 0207 604 4823 to find out how to become a member. Our scheme coordinator is Lydia, based at Abbey – contact her on firstname.lastname@example.org. We take our lead from you and will match you with someone who can visit as often or as little as you’d like. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, just like the people we visit.
Kilburn Good Neighbours has over 40 registered volunteers and they tell us that they look forward to seeing our members as much as you enjoy the visits. We are always on the look out for new volunteers to take part in this supportive befriending programme. If you would like to find out more about becoming a befriender volunteer, we would love to hear from you. Contact us to find out more about the role and to apply: email@example.com. “Thank you for making me feel better today.”
